Bald Mountain Operations Updates

2026 Summer Season

Scenic, Hiking & Biking Lift Access Open | Wednesday – Sunday, 9am – 4pm

Hours of Operation

Bald Mountain Access Updates:

Beginning Monday, July 13, through Friday, July 17, helicopter operations will take place daily to transport concrete to new tower footings for the Christmas Express and Lookout Express lift upgrades. Due to the aircraft's flight path and proximity to trail corridors, hiking and biking trails on Bald Mountain will be closed during active flight operations. These closures are necessary to ensure guest safety throughout construction.

Monday, July 13 - Tuesday, July 14

  • Hiking and biking on the upper portion of Bald Mountain Trail will be closed all day Monday and Tuesday, including all areas above the French Connection Trail and Traverse Trail intersections. There will be no hiking or biking above this point including service roads. Roundhouse Connector will be closed.
  • Lower Bald Mountain Trail will be open up to French Connection and Traverse Trail.

Wednesday, July 15 - Friday, July 17

  • Bald Mountain Trail will be open up to the Roundhouse Connector (possible delayed access in the morning) and on to the top of the Gondola.
  • There will be no hiking or biking above the intersection of the Connector Trail and BMT through Friday.

*Reminder that the Gondola is closed on Monday and Tuesday throughout the summer.

*Entering closed areas and trails is a Misdemeanor - Blaine County Ordinance 86-4.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to complete another upgrade to SKI Magazine’s #1 Ranked lift system.

*Closed For The Season: Saddle Up Trail, Lupine Trail

Lookout Lodge Closure

Lookout Lodge will be closed this summer due to Lookout and Christmas Lift Construction Projects. There will be NO RESTROOMS or POTABLE WATER inside the Lodge but there will be portable restroom facilities available. Full facilities will be available at the Roundhouse restaurant.

Christmas & Lookout Lift Enhancement Projects

Sun Valley Resort, ranked #1 for lifts in North America by SKI Magazine, is doubling down on that reputation for the 2026–2027 season with two major upgrades on Bald Mountain. Lookout Express steps up from a quad to a new six-person lift spanning 2,673 vertical feet (~8.5 minute ride), while the Christmas Lift gets a brand-new high-speed quad covering 1,354 vertical feet (~4.5 minute ride). Both lifts operate at speeds up to 1,000 feet per minute, delivering improved capacity, reliability, and the kind of seamless uphill experience that put Sun Valley at the top of the list.

Bald Mountain Trail Impacts

The City of Ketchum is building a new connector trail from Bald Mountain Trail to Warm Springs. There will be intermittent impacts to the first section of Bald Mountain Trail this summer. Please monitor this page for updates.
