Golf Instruction at Sun Valley Resort

Sun Valley Resort’s teaching professionals are available to help any golfer reach his or her goals. We offer private, group, and on-course instruction, as well as clinics and junior camps. See below for more information about our Professional Team and instruction schedule. 

Tate Mills, PGA 

Director of Golf, Sun Valley Resort

Tate was born and raised in Sun Valley and grew up as an all-season athlete, skiing and playing hockey in the winters and pursuing soccer, tennis, and mountain biking in the summers. His passion for golf began during as a junior while working as an outside services attendant at the Sun Valley Golf Course in high school. After graduating from San Diego State University, Tate began his golf career as an assistant professional. In 2015, he became the Head Golf Professional at Elkhorn Golf Club. After 7½ years, he was promoted to Director of Golf at the Resort.

Tate is a TPI certified instructor who focuses on stability and mobility when improving players' swing mechanics. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and recreating in the outdoors of the Wood River Valley and beyond with his wife Abby and daughter Poppy.

Dominick Conti, PGA

Director of Instruction

Dominick joined the PGA of America as an Assistant Golf Professional in the fall of 2000 while working at Elkhorn Golf Club. He was elected to PGA membership in the summer of 2008 and later that season was hired by the Sun Valley Resort as the Head Golf Professional. As he gained years of experience and was improving as a teacher and coach, he had created a demand for full time golf instruction and was promoted to Director of Instruction in 2022. In 25 years of teaching golf, Dominick has developed a simple method of teaching golf that focuses on the fact that each student has different needs. There are so many ways to enjoy this wonderful game of golf, so identifying each student’s goal is essential to Dominick’s professional golf instruction.

Baylor Comstock, PGA

Head Golf Professional, Sun Valley Resort

Baylor Comstock, PGA was born and raised in Boise, ID where he fostered his love for golf and sport. He obtained is degree in Professional Golf Management and Marketing from the University of Idaho in 2016 and is a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Go Vandals!  

Before joining the Sun Valley team as the Head Golf Professional in 2022, Baylor developed his skills as an instructor in Florida and Washington. His passion is coaching his students to understand their own golf swing and developing specialized play and practice programs to play better golf as fast as possible. He has experience instructing students of all skill levels and all walks of life. Baylor lives to create a community around golf, its lessons, and the relationships it builds. Baylor is a proud uncle, an avid sports fan, a fierce friend, and eager to guide you along your golf journey in Sun Valley and beyond. 

Tyler Hanson

Head Golf Professional, Elkhorn Golf Club

Tyler is originally from Jamestown, NY in the Southwest corner of upstate New York. He visited Sun Valley in college (St. Lawrence University) and moved here in 2010. Tyler, his wife, and their dog call the Wood River Valley home year-round. Tyler has worked at Elkhorn Golf Club since 2010, with one year as a Shop Assistant, 12 years as an Assistant Golf Professional, and three years as the Head Golf Professional, accumulating 15 years of teaching experience with every age and ability level. 

Erik Altenhofen, PGA

Assistant Golf Professional

Originally from Burlington, WA, Erik developed a passion for golf at a young age. He attended the University of Idaho, graduating from their Professional Golf Management program. During his time there, he was recognized as the Outstanding Senior in his PGA class. With over five years of experience in the golf industry, Erik has worked at private clubs including Skagit Golf & CC, The Golf Club at Black Rock, and Paradise Valley CC. Through these experiences, he has gained extensive knowledge of golf operations and instruction while learning from top PGA Professionals. After interning at Sun Valley Resort for two summers, he returned as an Assistant Golf Professional, bringing a diverse skill set and a passion for player development. 

Erik’s teaching philosophy focuses on simplifying the game and creating a clear path to improvement. His goal is to make learning both effective and enjoyable, leaving students with the confidence to keep improving on their own. Outside of golf, Erik enjoys spending time outdoors and playing other sports. He looks forward to helping guests improve their game while experiencing everything Sun Valley has to offer. 

Noah Goertzen

Assistant Golf Professional

Noah Goertzen is in his third year at Sun Valley Resort as an Assistant Golf Professional and graduating this spring from the University of Idaho PGA Golf Management Program. With a passion for the game that began at a very young age, he has developed a deep understanding of golf techniques, golf management, and player development. Noah works closely with both novice and experienced golfers, providing professionalized instruction and support to enhance their skills and enjoyment of the game. Noah is known for his approachable demeanor and his ability to create a positive learning environment, making golf accessible and fun for everyone. 

Outside of teaching, Noah enjoys competing in tournaments and events. One of Noah’s golf highlights was competing in the PGA University Championship for the past three consecutive years. In Noah’s free time, he enjoys playing and watching hockey, a sport that speaks volumes of his Canadian roots.
