To the Wood River Valley Community:

As the final pieces of the race venue and finish areas are put away, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for helping us make the World Cup Finals such a success.  When we initially signed up to do the event, we knew it would take the entire community working together to pull it off, but I still look back with wonder at how everyone rallied to make it happen. Coming off the bitter disappointment of the Downhill cancellation, the races were bookended by historic and unforgettable performances by Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin, with so much compelling action in between. What I’m still amazed by is the way you showed up at the races and the bib draws with such energy and spirit. We have heard over and over from athletes, coaches and FIS officials that we completely exceeded their expectations in every possible way and have set a new standard for World Cup racing in North America.  Wow!

I do want to acknowledge the sacrifices that were made that allowed us to prepare for the races, including periodic terrain closures in Warm Springs, and I appreciate your patience through all of it. We learned a lot this season and I’m confident we’ll be more efficient with the process if we have the opportunity to do it again.

I write this note feeling an overwhelming sense of pride in our community and gratitude to all of you for letting us take this risk and getting in the trenches with us to bring a crazy concept to dazzling reality.
